Meta flagged your link?
How a fresh start works.

By the peekin team. Updated . 5 minute read.

The short answer

Take every risky link off your profile first, not only the flagged one. Then check Account Status in Instagram's settings: when Recommendation eligibility shows a green tick, move your page to a new domain of your own and retire the old one so it does not forward. A new link removes one reason for a flag. It cannot lift a restriction Instagram has already applied.

When Instagram decides a link breaks its rules, or is linked to something that does, it can stop you adding it, warn people who tap it, or count it against your account. The usual sign for a creator is quieter: Account Status says your content cannot be recommended to people who do not follow you, and reach drops.

Instagram does not tell you exactly which signal tipped it. The link is one of several things it reads. Your bio text, your profile photo, your posts and the page behind the link all count, which is why changing the link alone is often not enough.

What we can say from what we have seen: creators on a shared address have regained recommendation after removing that link from their profile. That is a pattern, not a promise. Nobody outside Meta can promise a flag will be lifted, and you should be wary of anyone who does.

Instagram reads every link on your profile. That means up to five links in your bio, and any link stickers saved in your story highlights. A creator who swaps the main link but leaves a direct OnlyFans link in a highlight has changed nothing that matters.

Look for these, and take them off:

Following each link by hand is slow, because one tap can pass through three or four addresses. Our free check reads your bio, follows every link to its last address and marks the ones to remove. Highlights cannot be read without logging in to Instagram, so you paste those links in yourself.

Step two: wait for the green tick

Instagram shows you whether it will recommend your account. Open your profile, tap the three lines, then Settings and activity, then Account Status. The row to look at is Recommendation eligibility.

If it shows a green tick, your account can be recommended to people who do not follow you, and a new link starts from a clean position. If it does not, moving now will not change that. Account Status lists what is holding you back, such as removed posts, and some of those clear with time.

Your profile photo matters here too. A shirtless or swimwear photo can on its own stop an account being recommended. Check it before you blame the link.

Step three: a new domain that is yours alone

Move to a domain only you use. On a shared address, one creator's problem becomes everybody's, and you cannot appeal a block for your page alone. Our guide to shared link domains explains why.

Check the new name before you use it. A domain that was used for spam before it dropped carries that history into your bio. Our domain Scan checks a name against the major blocklists and its past use, and we run it before any move.

If you keep a spare domain ready, this step is one tap: the spare is already set up and secured, and nobody sees your page on it until you switch.

Step four: retire the old address, do not forward it

The obvious move is to make the old address forward to the new one, so old links still land. For a flagged address that is the wrong call. A forward is a redirect anything can follow, Meta's crawler included, so the new link starts out tied to the old one.

Retiring is the safer default. A retired address answers every visit with a short notice that the page has moved, and sends nobody anywhere. Fans who matter find you through your profile, where the new link now is.

Forwarding is still there for the cases it suits, such as an address that was never flagged and is simply being replaced. On peekin it is an advanced choice with a warning, never the default for a fresh start.

After the move

Then leave it alone for a while. Changing your link again and again looks like the behaviour Instagram is trying to catch. Watch Account Status rather than reach from day to day, which moves for many reasons.

On every paid plan, peekin walks you through all four steps in the dashboard and moves your page for you. See pricing for the plans.

Questions

Asked most often.

Will moving to a new link lift the flag on my account?

Not by itself. It removes one reason for a flag. If Account Status shows something else holding you back, deal with that first.

Why not forward the old address to the new one?

Because anything that follows the old link, Meta's crawler included, would land on the new one. Retiring the old address breaks that trail.

Can you read my story highlights?

No. Instagram does not show highlights without a login, so the check asks you to paste those links yourself.

Check your own page first

The scanner reads any link page the way Meta's crawler does and runs nine checks. It is free and needs no account. If you want a page built this way, the plans start at the price on the pricing page.
