Why Instagram restricts
creator accounts.
Written after four years of running creator accounts and losing several. Meta never tells you which signal it acted on, so most advice about this is guessing. This is what we have actually been able to measure, what we have only been able to correlate, and which parts a link page can do nothing about.
The one part you can measure
When your link is posted, Meta fetches the page with its own crawler, facebookexternalhit. Whatever comes back is what it knows. Most link pages hand it the paid destination in the markup, the creator's name, and a preview card pairing the two.
You do not have to take our word for any of this. Paste any link page into the scanner, ours or a competitor's, and it shows exactly what comes back. It is free and it needs no account, because an argument you cannot check is just a claim.
The five causes
Automation on a fixed schedule
An account posting at the same second every day, from a scheduler's servers, with no replies and no other activity, reads as a machine rather than a person. We watched this one directly: two accounts on the same tool, one posting at a scattered time with real replies and one firing at 18:00 daily, and only the second was repeatedly challenged.
The profile picture
A shirtless or swimwear profile photo can make a whole account ineligible for recommendation, which is not the same as a restriction and shows up as reach quietly disappearing. Changing the photo cleared it for us within days. We built a checker for this.
What the link page gives away
The destination in the markup, a preview card naming the platform, the page indexed and sitting on a shared host with thousands of others like it. This is the part that is measurable, and the part this product exists to fix. What we do about it.
Recycled content
Reposting a video the platform has seen before gets it suppressed. We assumed this was metadata and spent a week stripping it; it was not. It was genuinely the same footage, and the fix was re-editing rather than re-tagging.
Where you log in from
An account reached through a datacentre address, or from a new place with no history, looks like an account somebody else has taken. This is usually what a repeated identity challenge is: containment, not punishment.
What a link page cannot do
A link page controls what a crawler can read off it. That is the whole of its power. It has no bearing on whether Meta believes the right person is holding your account, and it will not undo an automation pattern or a photo problem.
We are saying this on our own sales site because customers do arrive blaming the link page for all five of these, and three of them it cannot touch. Anyone telling you a link page fixes your account is selling you something.
Straight answers
Does a link in bio get you banned on Instagram?
Not on its own. What gets acted on is what the link points at and what a crawler can read off the page it lands on. A page that puts the paid destination in its own markup hands Meta the association directly, and that is a different thing from the link existing.
Why does Instagram keep restricting my account?
The common causes are automation firing at the same second every day, a profile picture that trips the nudity classifier, recycled content, and a link page that reads as a doorway to a paid adult platform. They are separate problems with separate fixes, and only the last one is anything a link page can help with.
Is it safe to put an OnlyFans link in my bio?
Putting the OnlyFans address itself in the bio field is the version most likely to be actioned. A page in between, that does not name the destination in its own markup and asks for an age check first, is the safer shape. Neither is a guarantee.
What can Instagram actually read off my link page?
The page markup, the title, the meta description, the preview card, and every outbound address in it, because Meta fetches the page with its own crawler when the link is posted. You can see exactly what it gets for any page, including ours and every competitor, with our free scanner.
Will a custom domain stop my account being restricted?
It removes one signal, which is a shared host that thousands of adult link pages also sit on. It does not remove the others, and anyone selling a domain as an account fix is overselling it.
Start by measuring it.
Ten seconds, no account, and it works on any link page including the one you already have.
